     Please note: All sales are final and credits are only provided for those with a doctor’s note or if the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA cancels the class(es). No Refunds Permitted.

Clothing:  Gymnasts must wear proper clothing, such as leotards for girls, and shorts, sweats and fitted tops for boys, toddlers and preschoolers.  Loose or baggy clothing is not permitted for safety reasons because it can increase risk of injuries.  JEANS ARE NOT ALLOWED.  Clothing with buckles, buttons, belts and zippers are not permitted due to increased risk of injury and damage to equipment.  Shoes, tights that cover the feet and socks are not to be worn during class.  Hair must be tied back out of the face during class.  All jewerly must be removed prior to class.  No food or gum is permitted in the gym.  Children may bring drinks to class in plastic containers ONLY!!

Preschool Classes

1, 2 & You (walking to 2 years old and one adult)

This class provides group playtime for you and your child, singing songs, parachute play and other group playtime activities.  An excellent opportunity for your child to develop socializations skills while sharing uninterrupted qulaity playtime with you.

Tiny Tots (2-3 years old with an adult)

Tiny Tots provides an introduction to gymnastics for younger toddlers who love to run, jump and swing.  Children learn basic skills on the floor, beam, bars and springboard focusing on improving motor skills, balance, coordination and self-confidence.  This class is great for parents or grandparents who want to share in the child’s first gymnastic experience providing support, encouragment and guidance throughout the class.

  Tumblers (3-5 years old)

Tumblers is a beginner, structured gymnastic class, that teaches pre-school aged children the basic skills of gymnastics on the floor exercise, beam, bars and vault.  This class introduces the basic skills on all events while focsing on developing balance, coordination, flexibility and self-confidence.

  • Monday 10:30pm-11:15pm
  • Tuesday 6:45pm-7:30pm
  • Friday 10:15am-11:00am

Advanced Tumblers (3-5 years old)

Advanced Tumblers provides the next step for Tumblers who have mastered the basics.  In this class, gymnasts will work on more advanced elements on all four events while beginning to learn to concentrate on proper body form.  Must have completed Tumblers or have had an evaluation to enter this program.

  • Monday 11:15am-Noon
  • Tuesday 6:45pm-7:30pm

Tumble & Swim (ages 3 to 6)

A class that includes both gymnastics and aquatics.  It consists of a 45-minute Tumbler class (described above) with 10 minutes of playtime at the end of class.  The children next attend a beginner level swim class, which includes songs, floating skills, kicking, arm skills, jumping and lots of fun.

Grade School Classes

Rollers (Kindergarten and up)-Beginner Gymnastics

Rollers are an introduction to the sport of gymnastics.  Gymnasts will learn basic skills on floor, beam, uneven bars and vault.  Gymnasts will work on skills that will develop balance, flexibility, coordination and self confidence.

  • Saturday 12:00pm-1:00pm

Swingers - Intermediate level

Gymnasts will continue to work on developing a stronger mastery of basic skills and learn progressively more difficult skills on all four events. Proper body form, self-discipline, and increased understanding of technique will be integrated with skills being taught.

  • Wednesday 6:00-7:00pm

  • Saturday 1:00pm-2:00pm

Kippers - Advanced class

The last class of the progressive program before the gymnasts are ready to participate on a competitive team.  This class will work on advanced skills on all four events needed for competition and gymnasts will begin to learn choreographed routines for competition.

Cheerleaders

Cheerleading is a class which is taught on floor only.  Pioneer cheerleaders teaching this class will work on back walkovers, back handsprings, splits, tucks,  jumps and proper body form.  This is a great class for anyone who is on a squad or would like to try out for one.
