Strengthening the Community We Love
WILKES-BARRE FAMILY YMCA
For more than 160 years, the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA has been the heart of our community because of the belief that all children, adults and families deserve the chance to experience all the Y has to offer. For many in our community, though, the resources are not available to join the Y, send a child to preschool or summer camp or enroll in the before and after school program.
But where society falls short, the Y – and donors like you – step in. Together we make a difference in the lives of thousands of people and a huge impact on each individual we serve.
Thanks to our donors, the grandmother of these children has been able to send her grandchildren to the Y’s Preschool program, allowing them to learn the tools and resources necessary to thrive in kindergarten.
“I am a member of the rapidly growing population of grandparents raising grandchildren. My 4 year old and 3 year old granddaughters attend the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. Of course, becoming their primary caregiver caused some anxiety and insecurities. From the moment the girls started daycare at the YMCA, I felt relief. With the attentive and compassionate staffs’ diligence, both my girls and myself have settled into a successful and beneficial routine. There are no words to express my gratitude for the early education my girls are getting. On the same note, Gramma receives just as much attention which keeps me feeling positive and confident to keep going. The programs have been enriching, fun, and fulfilling. The girls look forward to coming every day and I feel confident they will be more than adequately prepared for primary school when it’s time. “

All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of caring adults who believe in their potential. We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development—all grounded in the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Healthy Living
We help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives. By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all walks of life improve their health and well-being, we build a stronger community.
Social Responsibility
With our doors open to all, we bring together people from all backgrounds, to support those in need. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. Our members, volunteers, supporters and staff demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back together achieve by giving back together.
